Creating a Web site in Publisher

Open Microsoft Publisher

  1. Select Blank Web Publication on left-hand side of screen
  2. Click on Publication Designs and choose a design
  3. Click on Web Site Options and choose Vertical Only. This will create the buttons to go from one page to another
  4. Think about how many pages you will have and click the Insert a Page option and choose Blank, for each page
  5. One of the pages change the names on the buttons from Blank to what you want each page to be called. Call the first page Home
  6. To shift from one page to another click on the small page icons at the very bottom of the screen
  7. To see how the site will look on the Internet click the Preview your Website at the left of the screen
  8. After you have added pictures and text to your site and tested it you need to publish it. Do the following to publish:
    1. Right-click on each page icon at the bottom of each page and select Rename. Give each page a single word name, in lower case. Name the first page index
    2. Go to the File menu and select Publish to the Web
    3. Create a folder in an appropriate place called MyWeb
    4. Save your site
    5. Close Publisher and open the folder where you save your site and open the Internet Explorer file called Index. Try it out.

Adding text and images to your site

  1. To add text click on the Text Box button at the left of the screen and drag a rectangle to type your text into.  Make sure it is not too close to other text boxes or images.
  2. To add images click on the picture frame box and select Picture from File. Drag a rectangle to put your picture into. You can pivot the picture using the green handle button at the top of the picture box.
  3. You can also copy and paste text or images from other web-sites. You should say where you got the information from

Adding hyperlinks to your site

  1. Highlight the text you want to make into a hyperlink
  2. Click on the Insert Hyperlink button (has a globe with a chain link underneath)
  3. Type in the address in the address box starting off with http://, for example http://rickbox.com.au
  4. Click OK
  5. You can also click on a picture and add a hyperlink following steps 2 - 4 above.
  6. Go to Web Page preview and test them out.
