Managing your Site

It gives you a great sense of satisfaction to see your site on the web.

However, sites need to be maintained. Your information goes out of date and what you want your visitors to know and what information you want to get from them constantly changes.

Ask people for feedback about your site. Get it checked on other computers to see if it is displaying properly.

Including a feedback form is a great way to find out how people are responding and using your site.

If you are managing sites for others, keeping sites up-to date can be very time-consuming. This can be profitable if people are paying you to to it.

Adobe offers a product called Contribute which enables the owners of the site to do their own managing without much web design expertise. It is much like using a word processing program like Word. They can change or add text and photos whenever they like without reference to the web designer. Different people can be given different pages to manage, spreading the workload.

It is quite reasonably priced and does not require Dreamweaver.

Getting Usage Statistics

Some web hosts provide excellent statistics on how your site is being used. They can tell what pages people are visiting most, at what times of the day, month and year, how long they stay, what words they use in their searches and from what other sites they are coming from.

Here is a sample of statistics provided by Web city for the users:
